Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is a seasonal resort that only begins to open up to the holiday masses in May and winds down in October. Even though it only has a small window of favourable weather, it offers many of the staples of a great family holiday, as well as being ideal for fun-seeking adults looking for a wallet-friendly way to travel abroad.

Like many European holiday destinations, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria reaches its peak in the summer with temperatures not too dissimilar from those in Britain, making it ideal for those who prefer not to melt in the sun. May to September offer the best temperatures with highs averaging between the low to high 20s, so be sure to pack warmer clothes if you plan to travel outside of the summer months.

All-inclusive hotel buffet restaurants in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria usually feature international food, meaning that there should be something for everyone. For those looking to get a taste of the local cuisine, you’ll be pleased to know that many buffets also offer Bulgarian favourites.
Italian and Asian cuisines are also usually available, either as part of a themed night at the buffet or as an à la carte option. Family favourites such as barbeques and grills are also common, providing those all-important snacks in the day.
You won’t have to search far to find an all-inclusive hotel with a great swimming pool, and many hotels also have a dedicated kids pool, along with slides or a mini-waterpark. Most hotels also have the facilities for a selection of sports such as table tennis, volleyball and more.
As a family friendly resort, many of the hotels in Sunny Beach offer a dedicated kids club, usually including entertainment such as shows and a mini-disco. There’s also some entertainment offered to adults, including live shows and music, as well as holiday favourites such as karaoke.

Sunny Beach is spread out across the coast of Central Beach, a white sand beach that is perfect for families and sun worshippers alike. Many of the all-inclusive hotels offered by UK tour operators are only a stone’s throw away from the beach, or at the very least only a few minutes stroll away.

Sunny Beach is a big hit with young British adults, so expect to run into a few holidaymakers taking advantage of the cheap alcohol and the lively nightlife. In addition to British visitors, you’re likely to find a few Bulgarians on holiday, as well as Irish, Scandinavian, Romanian, Russian and German visitors.
Because Sunny Beach is such a small resort, much of which is pedestrianised, you should find that you can get by without a taxi, but in the event that one becomes necessary, there are a few things to keep in mind.
It’s always advisable to agree how much a fare will be with the driver before you depart to avoid any uncomfortable moments upon your arrival. Speak to your holiday representative about any operators they recommend, as they might even be able to book a taxi or private hire car on your behalf.
Public transport in Bulgaria is very accommodating, so you shouldn’t run into any problems using the buses with young children, and you should find that there’s even space for buggies and prams.
Sunny Beach is very popular with younger adults looking to enjoy the party atmosphere, but it also has a few fun activities for the family, as well as some great opportunities for exploration.
Great for families and big kids
Make a splash at Action Aquapark – Action Aquapark features a great selection of pools and slides that are ideal for young children, as well as adults who still know how to have fun. The park also has a relax zone and even a mini zoo, making it a must for the whole family.
Be adventurous at Aquapark Nessebar – Aquapark Nessebar is a sprawling water park that features a great choice of slides, rides and pools, in addition to bars and restaurants that make it a great choice for families and young adults looking for some aquatic fun.
Be a pirate on Captain Jack’s Fun Cruise – Indulge the inner swashbuckler of younger land-lovers; the Tattoo ship takes a few scurvy dogs for a sail around Sunny Beach to play pirate themed games, splash on some face-paint and enjoy a shanty or two, while adults get to unwind on the deck before lunch is served and the ship returns to shore… Arrr.
Go pony riding – To the north of Sunny Beach you’ll find a horse-riding club that offers reasonably priced pony rides. Rides can be instructor led, or if you know what you’re doing you can explore the countryside on your own.
Great for adults and teenagers
Foam party on the beach – Foam parties have become a staple of a great night out, so make the most of the summer weather and indulge in a raucous beach party complete with oodles of foam, hammocks and shisha pipes.
Go on a shopping spree – Most tour operators offer excursions to the nearby markets such as Kableshkovo where you’ll find locally made goods and produce that can make for excellent souvenirs, and for a shopping experience closer to the high-street there’s the Galleria Mall. Go neon at a paint party – Perfect for fans of Lawrence of Arabia; speak to your tour operator about the opportunity to ride a camel while you’re in Egypt. Your friends and family might not believe you’ve been to Egypt if you don’t.
Sail off on a boat party – There are plenty of boat parties available throughout Sunny Beach, but the Scene/pukka Up Boat Party is considered to be the biggest. Featuring 3 bars, a DJ and dance floor, along with sun loungers and sofas for those who want to chill out, expect music, games and more.
Explore on a 4×4 adventure – Fancy dusting off your haggling skills? El Dahar can be found to the north of Hurghada in the old town, with shops packed with souvenirs, where haggling is considered obligatory.
See a show at Khan’s Tent – Cabaret and Vegas style shows are regularly put on at Khan’s Tent where you’ll also find circus acts, belly dancers and of course, plenty of local liquor to get in the party mood.
Discover Nessebar – Nessebar is considered to be one of the oldest towns in Europe and with UNESCO World Heritage Site status is full of historical sightseeing opportunities, including traces of the 3 millennia ago Thracian civilisation, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman influences.
